Assam Polls: BJP Promises Development Push In 31-Point Manifesto

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday released the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 31-point ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections at Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and state BJP president Dilip Saikia attended the launch event, along with other senior leaders and party workers.

Addressing the gathering, Sitharaman said the manifesto reflects the BJP’s vision of a secure, developed and self-reliant Assam, with 31 key commitments aimed at accelerating growth across multiple sectors. She stressed that the promises are rooted in the party’s governance record and its emphasis on inclusive development.

The Finance Minister further highlighted the Centre’s engagement with the state, pointing to frequent visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an indicator of sustained commitment to Assam’s progress.

Sitharaman also criticised the Congress for what she described as a limited organisational presence in the state during its tenure, contrasting it with the BJP’s expanded grassroots network over the past decade.

Chief Minister Sarma said the manifesto builds on the achievements of the current government and seeks to strengthen initiatives in healthcare, education and connectivity. He further underlined that the document aims to take forward ongoing development efforts across the state.

The BJP is preparing for a high-stakes electoral contest in Assam, with the manifesto expected to play a central role in shaping its campaign narrative. Party leaders expressed confidence that the commitments outlined in the Sankalp Patra would resonate with voters and help secure a decisive mandate.

The 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly will vote in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4.
