Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25-year journey in public office has significantly transformed governance in Gujarat and at the national level.
Shah made the remarks at a joint press conference in Mumbai alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He said PM Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and subsequently as Prime Minister from 2001 to 2026 had replaced years of administrative shortcomings with a stronger emphasis on measurable performance.
According to Shah, India has moved from its earlier classification among the ‘Fragile Five’ economies to a position of growing global economic influence.
“Before 2014, the nation’s path was crippled by three systemic evils—casteism, corruption, and nepotism,” Union Minister Shah said.
The Minister asserted that the government had worked over the past 12 years to eliminate these three problems while establishing a more decisive foreign policy.
The Home Minister said the Centre continues to follow a strict policy against cross-border infiltration and illegal migration networks.
Shah cited the removal of Article 370, progress against Naxalism and the reduction of insurgency in the Northeast among the government’s major achievements. He added that India now delivers a prompt retaliatory response when conspiracies result in the deaths of Indian citizens or armed personnel.
The NDA and civil society organisations will conduct a nationwide ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to commemorate PM Modi’s birthday on September 17 and his completion of 25 uninterrupted years as the head of government on October 7.
Shah said the campaign would extend the traditional ‘Seva Saptah’ into a month-long public service initiative. He said the drive would contribute towards the national ambition of making India a global leader across sectors by 2047.
Shah said the PM Modi government had given Indian regional languages an unprecedented level of national importance since Independence. He further highlighted the expanding implementation of the Uniform Civil Code across states.
The Home Minister expressed confidence that all 21 states currently governed by BJP-NDA alliances would introduce and enact the UCC before 2029.
