BRICS Summit 2026: PM Modi, Egypt President El-Sisi Discuss Stronger Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday. The leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

President El-Sisi stressed concrete measures to strengthen the partnership in manufacturing, technology, clean energy and automotive sectors. He highlighted Egypt’s strategic location, skilled workforce and broad free trade network.

President El-Sisi pointed to incentives available through the Suez Canal Economic Zone and other industrial areas.

PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. He praised Egypt’s regional influence and its economic and human potential. He urged Indian companies to increase investments in Egypt and explore new opportunities.

The leaders called for stronger business-to-business ties to support joint ventures and technology transfer. They examined opportunities in renewable energy, green hydrogen, pharmaceuticals and information technology.

El-Sisi praised India’s successful BRICS chairmanship and its efforts to deepen cooperation among member countries. He said these efforts support Global South interests and strengthen multilateral action.

PM Modi welcomed Egypt’s active participation in the summit.

The Ministry of External Affairs said both leaders reviewed the strong momentum in the India-Egypt Strategic Partnership. They discussed trade, investment, defence, security, technology, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges. They agreed to work closely through BRICS to advance Global South priorities.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi posted, “Had a wonderful interaction with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the BRICS Summit. We talked about various issues, notably regional issues and the India-Egypt friendship that is significantly growing in recent times.”
