PM Modi Welcomes Release Of Israeli Hostages; Applauds Trump’s Peace Diplomacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the release of all Israeli hostages held by Hamas, praising US President Donald Trump’s ‘unwavering peace efforts’ and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ‘strong resolve’ in ensuring their safe return.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister expressed India’s support for peace in the region, noting, “We welcome the release of all hostages after over two years of captivity. Their freedom stands as a tribute to the courage of their families, the unwavering peace efforts of President Trump and the strong resolve of Prime Minister Netanyahu. We support President Trump’s sincere efforts to bring peace to the region.”

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that the final 20 surviving hostages had been released and returned home after 738 days in captivity.

IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin described the occasion as ‘a defining moment for Israel and all who believe in humanity’, coinciding with celebrations on the eve of Simchat Torah.

India Reaffirms Its Consistent Stance

Since the October 7, 2023, terror attacks, India has consistently condemned violence against civilians and called for peace through dialogue and diplomacy.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated India’s position, urging both sides to prioritise a ceasefire and humanitarian aid delivery.

India has also advocated for the safe and sustained flow of humanitarian assistance to affected regions. Several international platforms, including the United Nations, BRICS, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the Voice of Global South summits, have reaffirmed this position.

In pursuit of peace, the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister have held discussions with leaders from Israel, Palestine, and other nations in the region.

These engagements reflect India’s ongoing commitment to promoting stability and dialogue in the Middle East while supporting humanitarian initiatives for those affected by conflict.
