PM Modi Visits Wat Pho In Bangkok, Pays Homage To Reclining Buddha

PM Narendra Modi, accompanied by Thailand’s PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra, visited the historic Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan (Wat Pho) in Bangkok on Friday. There, he paid his respects to the Reclining Buddha.

PM Modi Pays Homage To Reclining Buddha

During his visit, PM Modi paid homage to the Reclining Buddha, a revered symbol of Thailand’s spiritual heritage.

He offered ‘Sanghadana’ to senior Buddhist monks as part of the traditional Buddhist ritual.

In addition, he presented a replica of the Ashokan Lion Capitol to the shrine of the Reclining Buddha, symbolizing the deep historical and civilizational ties between India and Thailand.

In a press release, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that PM Modi recalled the strong civilizational links between the two countries during the visit.

PM Modi Expresses Gratitude And Reaffirms Civilizational Ties

PM Modi expressed his gratitude to Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for accompanying him to the temple. He praised Wat Pho for showcasing Thailand’s ‘rich cultural and artistic heritage’.

“Today, I had the honour of visiting the historic Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangkalaram Ratchaworamahawihan Or Wat Pho in Bangkok. I thank Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for the special gesture of coming to the Temple with me. One of Thailand’s most revered spiritual landmarks, Wat Pho also symbolises Thailand’s rich cultural and artistic heritage. People around the world derive strength from Lord Buddha’s teachings. These teachings also form the foundation of our ancient civilizational bond between India and Thailand,” PM Modi shared on X.

PM Modi Attends BIMSTEC Summit And Promotes Regional Cooperation

Earlier in the day, PM Modi participated in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, where he welcomed the adoption of the BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030 and the signing of the BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Agreement.

The leaders also adopted the Summit Declaration and the Report of the BIMSTEC Eminent Persons Group.

In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the highlights: “PM @narendramodi participated in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok today.

PM welcomed the signing of the BIMSTEC Maritime Transport Agreement, adoption of the BIMSTEC Bangkok Vision 2030, and adoption of the Report of BIMSTEC Eminent Persons Group.”
