Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a major development programme in Vadodara on Tuesday, September 8, with projects worth over ₹35,000 crore on the agenda.
PM Modi will reach the city around noon and inaugurate or dedicate several transport and development initiatives aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and infrastructure.
The Prime Minister will commission three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), together covering 326 route kilometres and costing more than ₹20,700 crore.
The sections stretch between Sanand (North)-Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-JNPA. Their completion will create a direct freight route to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, enabling industrial centres to move export and import consignments more efficiently.
PM Modi will flag off freight services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT. He will introduce a passenger service connecting Vadodara with Tanda Road.
The Prime Minister will dedicate the Jobat-Tanda Road railway line under the Chhota Udepur-Dhar project. The new route will, however, bring remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur into the national railway network.
PM Modi will additionally lay the foundation stones for three railway projects covering 329 km and costing over ₹9,700 crore.
The Centre will advance three National Highway projects worth around ₹1,780 crore, including six-laning work on NH-48 and new major structures across the Tapi and Narmada rivers.
PM Modi will inaugurate two six-lane flyovers at Kandari Chokdi and Luvara Patia to improve safety at identified accident-prone locations.
State-backed initiatives worth around ₹2,600 crore will feature in the programme. These, however, include Phase II of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar facility at Kadana Dam and a new Vadodara Municipal Corporation office.
The visit will cover housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and a water-supply scheme serving 11 villages in eastern Vadodara.
After concluding his Vadodara engagements, PM Modi will head to Mumbai, where he will inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at around 5:45 PM and address the gathering.
