Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls on citizens to embrace ‘Made in India’ manufacturing as he addresses a massive gathering at Jawahar Maidan in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
He inaugurates and lays the foundation stone for multiple projects across key sectors worth over ₹34,200 crore under the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ programme.
PM Modi emphasises that while India advances with the spirit of ‘Vishwabandhu’ or global brotherhood, its biggest challenge is dependence on other nations.
He warns that such reliance compromises national self-respect and future generations.
“For a Viksit Bharat by 2047, self-reliance is the only path,” he says, insisting that both chips and ships must be produced domestically.
The Prime Minister attacks previous Congress-led governments for neglecting India’s strengths after Independence, accusing them of isolating the economy through a licence-quota regime and focusing on imports during globalisation.
He cites the shipping sector as an example, noting that India’s share of trade conducted on Indian ships has plummeted from 40% to 5%, with ₹6 lakh crore now paid annually to foreign shipping firms.
Prime Minister Modi unveils new measures for the maritime sector, including ‘One Nation, One Document’ and ‘One Nation, One Port’ to replace outdated paperwork and streamline port processes.
He highlights five reformed maritime laws and recent amendments to colonial-era statutes, calling them vital for shipping and port governance.
More than 40 ships and submarines have entered the Navy over the past decade, with India building almost all of them.
He cites the indigenous construction of INS Vikrant and its steel as evidence of domestic capacity backed by political will.
