Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit West Bengal on 22 August, barring any last-minute changes, to participate in two key programmes—one administrative and one political.
The administrative segment of his visit will include the inauguration of three new metro rail routes in the state:
Following the metro inauguration, PM Modi will address a political rally organised by the West Bengal BJP at Dum Dum in North 24 Parganas district.
A state BJP committee member of the party stated, “Initially, the Dum Dum rally was scheduled on August 20. However, since the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament will continue till August 21, the Prime Minister will be busy in New Delhi till that date. The Bengal BJP unit sent a fresh proposal to set August 22 as the date for the Dum Dum rally. Now, unless there is a last-minute change, the Prime Minister’s programmes on August 22 are final.”
The West Bengal BJP has also submitted a plan to the central leadership for five more public meetings by the Prime Minister in the state over the next five months of 2025, essentially one meeting per month.
Additionally, the party intends to hold a major rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground in January next year, which PM Modi will likely address.
The state BJP official added that the upcoming public meetings will be strategically located to cover major areas of both North and South Bengal, often at sites where two or more districts converge.
Earlier this year, the Prime Minister held two public meetings in West Bengal:
During both events, PM Modi sharply criticised the West Bengal government, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Trinamool Congress, highlighting issues such as corruption, rising crimes against women, and communal tensions in certain minority-dominated areas.
