Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on 25–26 August to open and lay foundation stones for development projects in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, together worth Rs 2,548 crore.
The programmes come as Gujarat marks its Urban Development Year, coinciding with two decades of reforms initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the state’s Chief Minister.
Ahmedabad will see the bulk of the investment, with schemes totalling Rs 2,267 crore. Among them is a Rs 133-crore plan to redevelop 1,449 slum homes in Ramapir Tekra under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
The housing scheme will provide community facilities such as an anganwadi, a health centre, rooftop solar systems, and piped gas connections.
In the water sector, PM Modi will inaugurate a Rs 27-crore project under the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority. It features a 15-lakh litre clear water pump, a pumping station, and a 23-km trunk pipeline to deliver safe water to 10 villages in Daskroi taluka.
He will also lay foundation stones for civic upgrades, including drainage systems in Shela, Manipur, Godhavi, Sanathal, and Telav; the redevelopment of Law Garden and Mithakali precinct; new water distribution stations in Thaltej, Naranpura, and Chandkheda; and the rebuilding of the Asarwa Railway Over Bridge.
A Rs 56.52-crore mini sports complex is planned at Sarkhej, while a major Rs 1,624-crore project will expand the Sardar Patel Ring Road to six lanes.
The road scheme will run in two phases under the hybrid annuity model and include 62 km of service roads to ease traffic and improve safety.
Gandhinagar will launch projects worth Rs 281 crore:
These works focus on improving sanitation, water supply, roads, and flood protection.
The Prime Minister will also open a Rs 44-crore pipeline from Charedi headworks to Pethapur and Rakheja, providing Narmada water to nearly 55,000 residents.
Officials will also inaugurate a new sewage treatment plant and pumping stations at Dabhoda, likely to serve 17,000 people.
Foundation works in the city include a Rs 72-crore parallel road along the Metro between Dholakuva and Pancheshwar Circle, a stormwater line at Pethapur, and new water and sewer lines at Koba, Raysan, and Randesan.
These schemes, however, strengthen Gujarat’s urban infrastructure and improve daily life for its citizens.
