Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam today to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for infrastructure and industrial development projects worth ₹18,530 crore.
The visit reflects the government’s focus on boosting regional development, healthcare, clean energy, and connectivity in the North East.
PM Modi will begin the day in Darrang and address a large public gathering.
PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for several key health and education institutions, including the Darrang Medical College & Hospital, a GNM School, and a BSc Nursing College. These projects will expand access to quality medical education and strengthen the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
One of the highlights of the day is the foundation stone laying for the Guwahati Ring Road Project, a long-awaited urban infrastructure initiative designed to ease congestion and improve traffic flow in the capital region.
Additionally, PM Modi will also launch the Kuruwa–Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra River, a key connectivity project that promises to enhance regional mobility and drive socio-economic development across central Assam.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Numaligarh in Golaghat, where he will inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Plant at the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL).
This plant is a strategic component of India’s green energy mission, aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting clean, renewable alternatives.
In addition, he will lay the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Plant at the same refinery, a major investment in Assam’s growing petrochemical sector.
The project is expected to create local employment opportunities and catalyse industrial expansion in the region.
PM Modi joined a cultural event in Guwahati last evening to honour the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
The tribute honoured Hazarika’s immense contributions to Assamese music, culture, and national identity.
Following his engagements in Assam, PM Modi will travel to West Bengal and Bihar on 15 September.
In Kolkata, he will inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference, and in Purnia, Bihar, he will inaugurate the new terminal building of Purnia Airport, along with launching development projects worth ₹36,000 crore.
He will also inaugurate the National Makhana Board, aimed at promoting the local makhana farming sector, improving exports, and enhancing agricultural incomes in the region.
