Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with India’s contingent that participated in the Asian Games 2026 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday.
The programme is scheduled for around 4:30 pm, when the Prime Minister will also address the gathering.
Athletes, coaches, support staff, Indian Olympic Association officials, representatives of National Sports Federations and officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will attend the event.
India finished fourth in the medal standings at the Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze.
This marked India’s second-highest medal tally at the Asian Games, following its record haul of 106 medals at Hangzhou in 2023, comprising 28 gold, 38 silver and 40 bronze.
India achieved several milestones, with both hockey teams winning gold and the country earning its first Asian Games medals in soft tennis and MMA. India also won its first women’s trap gold, a weightlifting silver after 28 years and a Greco-Roman wrestling silver after 64 years.
Athletics led India’s medal tally with 24 medals, while archery secured nine, including five golds, matching its Hangzhou record.
India swept all three compound archery team titles, while Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav secured an LA 2028 Olympic quota in the mixed event. India also medalled in all five recurve events, with Kumkum Mohod winning individual gold and another Olympic quota.
Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win individual Asian Games golf gold, ending a 24-year wait. She later joined Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to win silver in the women’s team event.
