PM Modi To Inspect Flood-Affected Areas In Uttarakhand Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttarakhand today to evaluate the severe damage inflicted by continuous monsoon rains across the state.

Arriving in Dehradun on Thursday evening, the Prime Minister will conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas around 4:15 PM to gain a firsthand understanding of the devastation.

Following the survey, at 5 PM, PM Modi will chair a high-level review meeting with senior state and central government officials to assess the progress of relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Elaborate security measures have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the visit.

Monsoon’s Devastating Impact

Uttarakhand has suffered heavily this monsoon season, enduring cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods that have wreaked havoc in nearly every district.

The series of natural disasters has resulted in multiple fatalities, thousands of injuries, and extensive damage to vital infrastructure, including roads, schools, and power supply networks.

Government sources report that the intense rainfall during August and September caused estimated losses exceeding ₹5,000 crore.

The widespread destruction has crippled several key districts, compounding the challenges faced by rescue and relief agencies.

By early September, the calamities had claimed more than 80 lives, with nearly 100 people still missing.

A central government team previously visited the state to assess the damage and coordinate assistance.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Modi inspected flood-hit areas in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, underlining his government’s commitment to timely and effective disaster management.

His visit to Uttarakhand underscores the urgency of relief efforts in the Himalayan state.

Bilateral Talks in Varanasi

Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi hosted Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi. The meeting, held in the ancient city, sought to deepen the ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’ between India and Mauritius.

The two leaders discussed wide-ranging cooperation with a focus on development partnerships and capacity building.

They explored new collaboration opportunities in healthcare, education, science and technology, energy, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy.

This dialogue builds on the positive momentum from PM Modi’s state visit to Mauritius in March, which elevated bilateral ties to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’.

PM Modi’s visit to Uttarakhand not only aims to accelerate recovery from the monsoon disasters but also reflects the government’s broader focus on sustainable development and disaster resilience.

The continued strengthening of India’s strategic partnerships alongside internal recovery efforts highlights the dual priorities of governance and international cooperation.

The Prime Minister’s engagement across these critical areas is expected to bolster both the immediate relief operations and the long-term socio-economic development of Uttarakhand.
