CBI Claims Lalu Exchanged Railway Jobs For Cheap Land; Court To Announce Decision On 13 October

The Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday reserved its order on framing charges in the Land-For-Job Scam case involving former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogne directed all parties to file written replies and set the verdict date for October 13.

The CBI alleges Lalu Prasad Yadav exchanged Group-D jobs for land sold at undervalued rates.

The investigation states that the family purchased land 60 per cent cheaper than the market and made all transactions in cash.

Rabri Devi’s (former CM of Bihar) lawyer told the court that she brought the lands by paying money and committed no criminal offence. He argues that the CBI must prove corruption and provide credible evidence against the accused.

Special Public Prosecutor DP Singh countered that Lalu’s family appointed candidates who can’t even write their names.

Singh argued that the schools mentioned in their application never even admitted them. The signatures, transfer certificate and marksheets were all forged.

When questioned about the forgery, the CBI lawyer admitted, “Yes, since candidates must prove passing the eighth class.”

The CBI lawyer informed the court, it received necessary orders to prosecute Lalu and several other officials.

The investigation stated they collected sufficient evidence to justify corruption charges against 102 accused individuals.

Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family traded Group-D posts in the Central Railway for cheap land rates during his tenure as Railway Minister between 2004-2009.
