Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2025 in New Delhi on Tuesday, marking a key milestone in India’s mission to become a global semiconductor manufacturing and innovation hub.
The three-day international summit will bring together more than 350 exhibitors from 33 countries, showcasing India’s rapid strides in chip design, fabrication, and advanced packaging.
SEMICON India 2025, jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) and SEMI, the global industry association, will serve as South Asia’s largest platform for the semiconductor and electronics industries.
Since the launch of ISM in 2021, India’s semiconductor vision has gained remarkable traction.
With a ₹76,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, nearly ₹65,000 crore has already been committed to projects across the value chain.
On 28 August, India achieved a major breakthrough with the launch of an end-to-end Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Pilot Line in Sanand, Gujarat.
This facility, operated by CG-Semi, will soon roll out India’s first indigenously produced chip.
The government has approved 23 chip design projects under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, supporting startups like Vervesemi Microelectronics, which is developing advanced chips for defence, aerospace, and electric mobility.
PM Modi’s government continues to push for self-reliance in semiconductors, with focus areas ranging from chip design to fabrication and packaging.
SEMICON India 2025 will include:
Held previously in Bengaluru (2022), Gandhinagar (2023), and Greater Noida (2024), this fourth edition is themed ‘Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse’.
It will focus on topics such as AI, smart manufacturing, sustainability, and workforce development.
India is poised to become a key player in the projected $1 trillion global semiconductor market by 2030.
India leverages its strengths in equipment manufacturing through MSMEs, its rich chemical and mineral resources for materials, and its talent in R&D, AI, IoT, and cloud services to position itself across all major pillars of the semiconductor supply chain.
PM Modi’s inauguration of SEMICON India 2025 signals a future where India is not just a consumer, but a creator and global leader in the semiconductor industry.
