PM Modi To Hold 16th India-Japan Annual Summit With PM Sanae Takaichi

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reached New Delhi on Wednesday to begin her three-day official visit to India, scheduled from July 1 to 3. She is visiting the country at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, marking her first official trip to India since taking office.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi will assess the progress of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership during the summit. They are also expected to exchange views on regional developments and major international issues while exploring new avenues for cooperation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The upcoming discussions build on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Tokyo for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit in August 2025.

The two leaders also met during the G7 Summit in France on June 16, where they reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration, particularly in trade and investment.

India and Japan have continued to deepen collaboration in areas such as security, innovation, investment, economic development, and people-to-people exchanges.

During Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi’s visit to New Delhi in May, both governments reiterated their shared vision of advancing peace, stability and prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

The two countries also agreed to work more closely on economic security, technological innovation, investment and knowledge exchange while promoting a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific under their shared strategic vision.

India and Japan enjoy a long-standing relationship built on cultural links, mutual trust and shared democratic values.

India’s Act East Policy, SAGAR vision and Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative continue to complement Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific strategy, creating fresh opportunities to strengthen cooperation across strategic, economic and regional domains.
