Erling Haaland’s Late Goal Guides Norway To Maiden FIFA World Cup Round Of 16 Berth

Norway secured its first-ever place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 after defeating Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in an entertaining contest at Dallas Stadium.

A late strike from Erling Haaland ensured the Scandinavian side progressed to the knockout stage, where Brazil await.

Antonio Nusa broke the deadlock with a superb curling effort that gave Norway the lead.

Despite conceding first, Côte d’Ivoire responded confidently and continued to challenge the Norwegian defence throughout the match.

The Ivorians enjoyed an impressive spell after the interval and deservedly restored parity in the 74th minute.

Amad Diallo exchanged passes with Pepe before gliding past two defenders and producing a magnificent finish beyond Ørjan Nyland to make it 1-1.

Norway found the decisive breakthrough just four minutes from full time.

Patrick Berg surged into the attacking third before delivering a perfectly weighted pass across the box, allowing Haaland to apply a simple finish for his fifth goal of the tournament and restore Norway’s lead.

Côte d’Ivoire pushed hard for another equaliser in the closing moments.

Diallo nearly forced extra time with a well-struck free-kick from outside the area, but Nyland reacted brilliantly to tip the effort away with an outstanding one-handed save.

The final whistle sparked joyous celebrations among the Norwegian squad and their supporters as they celebrated a landmark achievement.

Norway will now shift its focus to a blockbuster Round of 16 encounter against five-time world champions Brazil as they aim to extend their impressive World Cup journey.
