PM Modi Stresses India’s Climate Action At Delhi Conference

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India’s per capita carbon emissions are less than half the global average, stressing that the country continues to highlight this fact on international platforms.

PM Modi made the remarks while inaugurating an international conference on ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’ in Delhi. He also launched the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) Mobile App during the event.

The two-day conference, organised by the NGT, brings together judges and judicial representatives from 17 countries to discuss major environmental and climate challenges.

Participants are examining gaps in policy formulation, implementation and enforcement, while exploring ways to strengthen environmental governance and institutional cooperation.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said India had guided the world on environmental values for centuries through its traditions and cultural practices. He said the country was now drawing on this heritage to develop solutions to modern climate challenges while calling for collective global action.

The Prime Minister said developed countries have significantly higher per capita carbon emissions than India. He argued that developing countries should not bear disproportionate responsibility for global emissions and said India was presenting its position firmly at international forums.

PM Modi also highlighted India’s efforts to showcase its environmental traditions and climate initiatives globally.

Referring to the Paris climate conference, he recalled that India had launched the book ‘Convenient Action: Continuity for Change’ during COP21.

He said India’s approach seeks to combine environmental protection with collective global action and added that the country was setting new benchmarks by taking the world along in its efforts.

PM Modi highlighted India’s cultural heritage in addressing environmental challenges. The NGT conference focuses on climate governance and environmental protection.
