PM Modi Shares Key Insights From Recent Ukraine Visit In Call With Russian President Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a series of high-profile diplomatic conversations this week, including discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Joe Biden, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, following his historic visit to Ukraine.

On Tuesday, PM Modi spoke with President Putin, focusing on enhancing the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. During their conversation, PM Modi shared insights from his recent visit to Ukraine and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting an early, peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He later posted on X, “Discussed measures to further strengthen our strategic partnership. Exchanged perspectives on the conflict in Ukraine and shared my observations from the recent visit.”

This conversation followed PM Modi’s Monday evening phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden. The two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with PM Modi emphasizing India’s consistent stance in favor of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the situation. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) later released a statement highlighting India’s unwavering support for peace and stability in the region.

Earlier that day, PM Modi also held discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Their conversation covered bilateral relations and cooperation in multilateral forums, including the Quad alliance, which also includes the United States and Japan.

PM Modi’s visit to Kyiv last Friday marked a significant moment in India-Ukraine relations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude, stating that India supports Ukraine’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The two nations signed agreements in the fields of medicine, agriculture, humanitarian relations, and culture during the visit.

Reflecting on his visit, PM Modi said, “My visit to Ukraine was historic. I came to this great nation with the aim of deepening India-Ukraine friendship. India firmly believes that peace must always prevail. I thank the Government and people of Ukraine for their hospitality.”

PM Modi’s diplomatic efforts have been ongoing, with a significant meeting held last month in Moscow with President Putin. During their discussions, Putin acknowledged PM Modi’s initiative to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, expressing gratitude for India’s efforts to address pressing global issues.

As the conflict continues, PM Modi’s engagements underscore India’s role in advocating for peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
