PM Modi Says Somnath Temple Reflects India’s Courage And Civilisational Spirit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attended the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district.

The programme marked 75 years since India’s first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad, inaugurated the reconstructed temple in 1951. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had led the restoration efforts after Independence.

The Prime Minister also participated in the Vishesh Maha Puja, Kumbhabhishek and Dhwajarohan rituals organised at the temple premises.

In a post shared on X, PM Modi reflected on the repeated attacks faced by the Somnath Temple over centuries. He praised the determination of people who rebuilt the temple time and again despite repeated destruction.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of the temple’s reconstruction after Independence. He described the Somnath Temple as a lasting representation of India’s courage, devotion and cultural continuity.

During the event, the Prime Minister unveiled a commemorative postage stamp and coin dedicated to the temple’s heritage and legacy.

In another message shared on X, PM Modi spoke about the saffron flag placed atop the Somnath Temple. He described it as a symbol of national faith and pride.
