PM Modi Returns To Delhi After Five-Nation Diplomatic Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi on Thursday morning after successfully concluding his five-nation diplomatic tour covering the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy.

The Prime Minister began the tour on May 15 with a visit to the UAE and completed the final leg in Italy on May 20.

The visit focused on strengthening India’s global partnerships, expanding economic cooperation and enhancing strategic engagement with key partners across Europe and West Asia.

In the UAE, India signed major agreements related to long-term LPG supplies and strategic petroleum reserves.

India also allowed the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company to expand its crude storage capacity to 30 million barrels, while the UAE pledged investments worth USD 5 billion.

India and the Netherlands signed 17 agreements on defence cooperation, critical minerals and green hydrogen.

PM Modi visited the Afsluitdijk dam to study Dutch flood control and water management systems.

During the Sweden visit, India elevated ties to a Strategic Partnership. PM Modi addressed the European Round Table for Industry with Ursula von der Leyen and received Sweden’s Royal Order of the Polar Star.

In Norway, the first such visit in 43 years, the Prime Minister attended the India-Nordic Summit, discussed AI and green tech, and received the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.

In Italy, ties were upgraded to a Special Strategic Partnership with a 20 billion euro trade target by 2029.

PM Modi also held talks with Giorgia Meloni on defence and the IMEC corridor.

The tour, however, focused on energy security, innovation, climate cooperation and trade growth.
