Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for startups in India.
He emphasized the youthful energy driving innovation across the nation.
In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Modi highlighted the significant role startups play in shaping a prosperous future for India, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
“Rightly stated by Rikant Pitti! StartUps will surely play pivotal role in building a ‘Viksit Bharat.’ Our focus is on augmenting this ecosystem and giving them the pedestal to shine,” Modi posted, responding to comments made by Rikant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip.
Pitti’s remarks were featured in a video clip shared by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
In the video, Pitti detailed the remarkable growth of India’s startup ecosystem. He noted an exponential increase from 450 registered startups in 2018 to over 100,000 today.
He credited this growth to the Digital India initiative launched in 2015, which has significantly expanded internet access and boosted digital transactions nationwide.
“Thanks to the BharatNet scheme, over 250,000 Gram Panchayats and villages now have internet access,” Pitti stated.
He emphasized that technology is crucial for India’s future. He echoed MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s observation that the digital economy has grown 2.8 times.
Pitti also expressed optimism about India achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’ before 2047, noting the unparalleled expansion of the nation’s digital public infrastructure.
He mentioned EaseMyTrip’s recent partnership with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
These comments were made during the ‘Vishesh Sampark Abhiyan’ event hosted by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at his Delhi residence.
