PM Modi Pays Tribute To Lal Bahadur Shastri; Recalls ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ Legacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary and remembered his simplicity and dedication to the nation.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Homage to Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, whose simplicity and dedication to the nation remain deeply inspiring.”

The Prime Minister released a video highlighting Shastri’s contribution and recalled his iconic slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”.

“Lal Bahadur Shastri came and gave the message of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. Every farmer stood up,” PM Modi said.

He recalled Shastri’s personality and leadership, saying his name evokes immense reverence among people.

“He, in just one-and-a-half years, together with the farmers and soldiers, gave the mantra to achieve success,” he added. Earlier, PM Modi paid tribute to Shastri at Vijay Ghat in New Delhi.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi remembered Shastri’s simplicity, humility and decisive leadership. He highlighted his commitment to the nation and faith in farmers and soldiers.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described Shastri as a simple leader devoted to national service. He recalled the continuing significance of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti falls on October 2, marking India’s second Prime Minister’s birth anniversary. Born Lal Bahadur Shrivastava, he dropped his caste surname young to distance himself from the caste system.

Kashi Vidyapeeth awarded him the academic title ‘Shastri’, meaning scholar, in 1925. His famous slogan highlighted the vital role of soldiers and farmers.
