2027 ODI World Cup: India Open Against Australia Before Pakistan Showdown

India will begin their 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup journey with a blockbuster encounter against defending champions Australia in Cape Town on October 7.

The fixture will give India another meeting with Australia after their defeat in the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad.

India will then take on Pakistan at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on October 10, before travelling to Tshwane for their October 14 fixture against Afghanistan.

The team will subsequently play Qualifier A in Bloemfontein on October 17 and finish their Group A campaign against co-hosts Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls on October 24.

The competition will get underway on October 2 with a Super Series qualification phase in Windhoek.

The 14-team tournament will follow a four-stage format, beginning with the qualifier round before the main group stage.

The successful qualifier will join 11 directly qualified teams in two six-team groups.

The top three sides from each group and the next-best team will enter the seven-team Super 7 stage.

The top four teams from that round will advance to the semi-finals, with the winners meeting in the final.

Cape Town will stage the first semi-final on November 17, while Centurion will host the second on November 18. Johannesburg will then stage the title match on November 21.

Potential Repeat Rivalry Clashes

India and Pakistan could meet again in the Super 7 stage if both progress, with their scheduled fixture set for November 7 at Newlands in Cape Town.

India may also encounter Australia for a second time on October 28 at the Fale Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium in Victoria Falls.

The ICC launched its official ticket ballot on October 1, allowing fans to register for match tickets through a non-first-come, non-first-served system.

Ticket prices begin at USD 9.62, while organisers have also introduced family packages and concessions for students and pensioners.

Community clubs and schools will have access to dedicated group pricing.

South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will collectively stage 57 matches across 12 venues, marking Africa’s return as host of the men’s ODI World Cup after the 2003 edition.
