PM Modi Pays Tribute To Jawaharlal Nehru On Death Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid homage to India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his death anniversary.

In a message shared on the social media platform X, PM Modi remembered Nehru and paid respects to his contribution to the nation.

Jawaharlal Nehru, born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad, emerged as one of the most influential leaders of India’s freedom movement and as India’s first Prime Minister. He received his early education at home before travelling to England for higher studies.

Nehru studied at Harrow and later at Cambridge University, where he pursued Natural Sciences. He also trained as a barrister at the Inner Temple in London before returning to India in 1912.

Soon after his return, Nehru became actively involved in the Indian freedom struggle. Deeply inspired by nationalist movements around the world, he closely followed anti-colonial campaigns and later joined the Indian National Congress.

His association with Mahatma Gandhi significantly shaped his political journey and commitment to India’s independence movement.

Nehru played a key role in India’s freedom struggle and participated in major movements, including the Non-Cooperation Movement, Salt Satyagraha and Quit India Movement. He was jailed several times during the fight against British rule.

As Congress President in 1929, Nehru strongly backed complete independence for India.

After Independence, Nehru helped shape modern India through policies focused on democracy, industrial growth and scientific development. He served as Prime Minister from 1947 until his death on May 27, 1964.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary on November 14 is observed as Children’s Day in India.
