PM Modi Pays Tribute To Guru Tegh Bahadur On 350th Shaheedi Diwas

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur on the 350th Shaheedi Diwas, describing the ninth Sikh Guru’s sacrifice as a guiding light for humanity.

Guru Tegh Bahadur, widely revered as ‘Hind ki Chadar’ – the Shield of India – is honoured for defending the religious freedoms of Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus during the oppressive rule of Emperor Aurangzeb.

Mughal authorities executed Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1675 in Delhi because he refused to abandon his principles and beliefs.

His martyrdom remains one of the most defining moments in India’s spiritual and cultural history.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “On the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, we bow in reverence to his unmatched courage and sacrifice. His martyrdom for the protection of faith and humanity will forever illuminate our society.”

In a video message, he emphasised that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life continues to inspire generations, “Great persecutions have ended, great storms have calmed, but India still stands unfaded today; it is moving forward. Today, the world is once again looking towards India to lead humanity, and we can feel the blessings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in this new India.”

Honouring the Guru’s Legacy in Haryana

Later today, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Haryana to participate in a series of events dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur.

The Haryana government, along with the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, is commemorating his 350th martyrdom anniversary at Jyotisar, an important spiritual site associated with the Bhagavad Gita.

The programme aims to spread the message of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s courage, penance, and commitment to safeguarding dharma.

During the event, the Prime Minister will release a special commemorative coin and postal stamp to mark the historic occasion.

He will also address the gathering, reflecting on the Guru’s lasting contributions to India’s civilisational heritage.

The Central government is observing a year-long series of programmes to honour the Guru’s Shaheedi Diwas, highlighting his message of religious freedom, compassion, and universal brotherhood.

These initiatives aim to educate younger generations about his transformative impact on the country’s cultural and spiritual identity.

Through his tribute, PM Modi reaffirmed the enduring significance of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s teachings, noting that his courage and compassion remain deeply rooted in India’s collective conscience.
