PM Modi Pays Tribute To Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee On Birth Anniversary

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, on his birth anniversary.

Taking to X, PM Modi expressed, “Respectful tributes to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary, who made India proud with his strong nationalist views. His dedication and sacrifice for the motherland will always inspire the citizens of the country.”

As the nation remembers Dr Mookerjee, Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to Mookerjee’s ideals and his efforts to realize the vision of ‘One Nation’ come to the forefront.

PM Modi’s Tribute To Mookerjee: Uniting India & Upholding Beliefs

A popular X handle, Modi Archive, shared insights on Saturday about PM Modi’s commitment to Mookerjee’s beliefs and his persistent efforts to unify the country.

Meanwhile, the account highlighted a special tribute paid by Modi in 2013, emphasizing his steadfast adherence to Mookerjee’s vision.

In 2014, PM Modi became BJP’s campaign committee chairman for the Lok Sabha elections. He led his first rally at the spot in Pathankot where authorities arrested Mookerjee in 1953.

This rally also commemorated Mookerjee’s ‘Balidan Diwas.’

The public rally in Pathankot was significant as it marked the location where Dr Mookerjee was detained for 45 days in 1953.

His sudden demise in custody however shocked the nation and catalyzed the abolition of the Permit System in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Mookerjee, a staunch advocate for a unified India, died while fighting for the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The Modi government realized his vision in 2019 by revoking Article 370, nullifying the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The government followed this by completely abolishing Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomous status on 1 January 2020.

Additionally, the government closed the Lakhanpur Toll Plaza in Pathankot, the very site of Mookerjee’s arrest, symbolizing the dismantling of the artificial legal barrier between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of India.
