PM Modi Pays Tribute To Cultural Icons In ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to Assamese singers Bhupen Hazarika and Zubeen Garg, as well as Karnataka author SL Bhyrappa, during his latest edition of Mann Ki Baat.

The Prime Minister reflected on their lasting impact on Indian culture and the arts.

PM Modi played two iconic songs of Bhupen Hazarika and noted their universal appeal.

“These sounds bear witness to how Bhupen Hazarika’s music connects different countries around the world,” he said.

Highlighting the international reach of Hazarika’s work, the Prime Minister mentioned that Sri Lankan artists have translated the celebrated song Manuhe-Manuhar Baba into Sinhala and Tamil.

He recalled participating in Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations in Assam, describing the event as ‘truly memorable’ and a testament to the singer’s enduring legacy.

Amid tributes to Hazarika, PM Modi expressed grief over the untimely demise of Zubeen Garg.

“Zubeen Garg was a renowned singer who made his mark across the country. He had a deep connection with Assamese culture,” the Prime Minister said.

He further added that Garg’s music will continue to captivate generations and played selections from the singer’s repertoire during the broadcast.

PM Modi also remembered the late author and philosopher SL Bhyrappa.

“I had personal contact with Bhyrappa and shared in-depth conversations on various topics over the years,” he said.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the availability of translations of Bhyrappa’s Kannada works and stressed that his writings guide younger generations.

“He taught us the importance of being proud of our roots and culture,” PM Modi added, urging youth to explore Bhyrappa’s oeuvre and preserve India’s rich literary heritage.
