PM Modi Highlights Maharishi Valmiki’s Enduring Legacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Maharishi Valmiki in his latest Mann Ki Baat episode, recalling the sage’s immense contribution to Indian culture through the epic Ramayan.

He marked October 7 as Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. He described it as a day to reflect on the values and teachings enshrined in the Ramayan.

PM Modi described Maharishi Valmiki as a pillar of Indian culture. He emphasised that Valmiki introduced generations to the Avatar Kathas of Bhagwan Ram. He highlighted that the Ramayan’s influence lies in the ideals of service, harmony and compassion embodied by Bhagwan Ram.

“The Ram of Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayan is complete only with Mata Shabari and Nishadraj,” the Prime Minister said.

He noted that the Ayodhya Ram Temple honours this legacy with temples dedicated to Nishadraj and Maharishi Valmiki alongside it.

PM Modi encouraged citizens visiting Ayodhya to offer prayers at these temples in addition to the Ram Temple.

In his address, the Prime Minister also spoke about efforts to secure international recognition for India’s cultural heritage. He mentioned that the government is striving to include the Chhath Mahaparva in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

PM said that including Chhath Puja in the UNESCO list will allow people worldwide to experience its grandeur and divinity.

He recalled that the Government of India’s efforts secured UNESCO recognition for Kolkata’s Durga Puja. He emphasised that such global recognition allows the world to understand and participate in India’s rich cultural traditions.

Through Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi underscored the importance of preserving India’s spiritual and literary heritage. He urged citizens and the youth to engage with cultural icons and festivals, ensuring that the values and traditions of Indian civilisation continue to inspire generations both nationally and internationally.
