On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon at Hyderabad House in the national capital.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, reinforcing the growing partnership between the two nations.

Taking to X, Jaiswal posted, “PM @narendramodi warmly welcomed PM @chrisluxonmp of New Zealand at Hyderabad House today. Extensive discussions on India – New Zealand bilateral relationship lie ahead.”
New Zealand’s PM arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, marking the start of his five-day official visit to India.
Earlier on Monday, PM Christopher Luxon paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, reflecting on India’s rich historical legacy.
The visit comes amid increasing efforts to bolster economic cooperation and regional security.
Both leaders will likely explore trade expansion opportunities, with negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) already announced.
Expressing his enthusiasm for deepening ties, PM Luxon described the Indian government as ‘incredibly generous and very welcoming’.
New Zealand’s PM emphasized the significance of his visit, highlighting that he is accompanied by the largest-ever business and community delegation to travel with a New Zealand Prime Minister on an international trip.
PM Luxon underlined the vast potential for stronger trade relations, stating that expanded cooperation with India would bring considerable benefits to New Zealand’s economy.
PM Luxon also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Indian community in New Zealand, noting that Indian-Kiwis form the country’s third-largest ethnic group, are the leading source of skilled migrants, and play a crucial role in international education.
Engaging with Indian-origin business leaders and professionals, New Zealand’s PM reinforced the strong people-to-people ties that underpin diplomatic relations.
Further highlighting the cultural connections, PM Luxon met with New Zealand cricketers of Indian descent, Ajaz Patel and Ross Taylor, underlining cricket’s role in bringing the two nations closer.
On Sunday, PM Luxon held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who commended his commitment to fostering India-New Zealand relations.
As part of his visit, PM Luxon will however serve as the chief guest and keynote speaker at the Raisina Dialogue, India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geo-economics, inaugurated by PM Modi.
Following his bilateral meeting with PM Modi, PM Luxon will likely witness the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) at Hyderabad House before proceeding to Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet President Droupadi Murmu.
India and New Zealand, whose diplomatic ties date back to 1952, continue to build on their shared Commonwealth heritage, democratic principles, and mutual commitment to economic development and regional stability.
