Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare facilities across India.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre, a new extension of the Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute & Research Centre in Nagpur, he underlined the government’s achievements in the healthcare sector.
PM Modi revealed that the government has doubled the number of medical colleges, tripled the number of operational AIIMS, and increased the number of medical seats to provide better healthcare services.
“Our goal is to ensure qualified doctors are accessible to all citizens, and we made a bold decision to teach medical education in students’ mother tongues to help children from underprivileged backgrounds pursue careers in medicine,” PM Modi remarked.
PM Modi also highlighted the success of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which has made free treatment accessible to crores of citizens.
He pointed out that thousands of Jan Aushadhi Kendras are providing affordable medicines to poor and middle-class families, saving thousands of crores.
Furthermore, millions of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been established in villages, offering primary healthcare services to the rural population.
The Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre, set to feature a 250-bed hospital, 14 outpatient departments (OPDs), and 14 modular operation theatres, aims to provide affordable and world-class eye care services.
The facility will be a major boost for ophthalmic care in Nagpur, an area already known for its excellence in medical services.
In his speech, PM Modi also reflected on India’s growing role as a global leader.
He recalled India’s swift response to global crises, such as providing vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic and offering aid to countries like Myanmar, Turkey, Nepal, and the Maldives during natural disasters.
PM Modi emphasized the importance of India’s youth, whom he described as the country’s greatest asset.
He expressed confidence that the youth, imbued with a spirit of nation-building, are key to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Concluding his speech, PM Modi paid tribute to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its selfless service and dedication to nation-building.
He also urged volunteers to continue working selflessly for the country, highlighting the lasting impact of India’s cultural and social movements throughout history.
