PM Modi Lauds Women’s World Cup Champions: ‘The Entire Nation Is Proud Of You’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 champions at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on Wednesday. He congratulated them on their historic victory.

The Indian women’s team defeated South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. They claimed their maiden ICC title with this historic victory.

The Prime Minister called it a significant day as it coincided with both Dev Deepawali and Gurpurab. He extended his best wishes to everyone present.

Head coach Amol Mazumdar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, calling it an honour and a privilege to meet him.

He said the team’s campaign was led by the daughters of the nation. He praised their exceptional hard work and dedication over the past two years.

Coach Mazumdar said the players showed remarkable energy and intensity in every practice session. He added that their consistent hard work finally paid off.

Nation Applauds Historic Win

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said she met the Prime Minister in 2017 without a trophy. She expressed deep honour in presenting the trophy the team had worked hard to win.

“You have doubled our joy, sir,” she said, adding that it was a matter of great pride and that the team aimed to keep meeting him in the future with more trophies.

PM Modi acknowledged the team’s extraordinary achievement, saying they had truly accomplished something special.

He remarked that cricket in India is not just a sport but an emotion that connects millions.

“When cricket goes well, the nation feels uplifted, and even a setback shakes the country,” he said.

Harmanpreet Kaur said the Prime Minister’s words in 2017 had motivated the team deeply. She added that his encouragement pushed them to give their best when the next opportunity arrived.

Smriti Mandhana said she had once asked the Prime Minister how to deal with expectations. She added that his answer stayed with her and helped the team over the years.

Mandhana said the PM’s constant encouragement had inspired them to perform better.

She said the growing presence of women in every field, from ISRO to sports, motivated them more.

PM Modi said the entire nation was watching and taking pride in their achievement.

Jemimah Rodrigues said the team’s strength came from its unity. She added that a team shows its true character by how it rises after a fall, not by how many times it wins.
