PM Modi Inaugurates Railway Line In Mizoram; Locals Hail Connectivity Boost

In a landmark moment for Mizoram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 51.38-kilometre Bairabi–Sairang railway project, officially linking Aizawl—the state capital—to the Indian Railways network.

With this, Mizoram becomes the fourth northeastern capital connected by rail, following Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar.

Locals have hailed the development as a game-changer for the state’s connectivity and economic prospects.

Local residents and students expressed excitement and hope over the project’s long-term impact.

One resident shared, “It is very exciting to have the railway coming, with the knowledge that we are the fourth northeast state to join the Indian Railways network. It will improve our connectivity and create new opportunities for trade, education, and tourism.”

Young people echoed similar optimism. A student noted, “I hope this railway line will improve our economy and be used by the youth of Mizoram. It will be useful for us.”

Another added, “It will lead our society towards development and inspire young people to work harder.”

Official Acknowledgement and Gratitude

Mizoram Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar thanked Prime Minister Modi and the Railway Ministry for prioritising connectivity in the region.

“I am very thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the railway station in Mizoram. Thanks also go to the Railway Minister and everyone involved in making this possible,” he said.

In addition to the railway inauguration, PM Modi flagged off three new train services and unveiled development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore for the state.

The projects span infrastructure, transportation, and public services—forming a broader push for development in the Northeast.

Following his Mizoram visit, the Prime Minister is now touring Manipur, where he will unveil 31 projects totalling ₹8,500 crore.

He is scheduled to address public gatherings in Churachandpur and Imphal, and engage with local MLAs, civil society organisations, and community leaders.

PM Modi’s continued focus on the Northeast reflects his government’s commitment to bringing the region into the national development fold.

Furthermore, the railway connectivity in Mizoram is expected to improve logistics, promote tourism, and generate employment, aligning with the government’s vision of inclusive growth and enhanced national integration.

This milestone marks a new chapter in Mizoram’s progress, bringing long-awaited rail connectivity and economic growth to the state.
