PM Modi Highlights PMMY’s Role In Expanding Opportunity & Enterprise

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted the transformative impact of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), stating that it reflects an economic ethos where opportunities are accessible, initiatives are encouraged, and every dream receives the support to grow.

Sharing his thoughts on the social media platform X, he emphasised the scheme’s role in empowering individuals and strengthening entrepreneurship across India.

He also shared insights highlighting the scheme’s achievements over the past 11 years, noting that PMMY has bridged the gap between ambition and access to credit.

By enabling collateral-free loans, the initiative has transformed millions of job seekers into business owners, fostering a culture of self-reliance and innovation.

The scheme has significantly redefined access to finance by removing traditional barriers and enabling first-time entrepreneurs to pursue their aspirations.

Loans of up to Rs 20 lakh are now available without collateral, supporting ventures across manufacturing, trading, services, and agriculture-allied sectors.

PMMY has also played a crucial role in expanding financial inclusion. Women entrepreneurs have emerged as key beneficiaries, with a significant share of loans supporting their enterprises.

Additionally, the scheme has reached historically underserved communities, including SC, ST, OBC groups, and minority borrowers, broadening access to formal credit systems.

The initiative offers structured loan categories—Shishu, Kishor, Tarun, and Tarun Plus—designed to support businesses at different stages of growth.

Increasing repeat borrowing trends indicate rising trust, with entrepreneurs seeking higher-value loans as their ventures expand.

Beyond urban centres, PMMY has extended opportunities to Tier 2, Tier 3, and rural regions, fostering decentralised economic growth.

By recognising skill as a form of capital and supporting micro-enterprises such as vendors and small businesses, the scheme continues to strengthen India’s grassroots economy and drive inclusive development.
