PM Modi Highlights India’s Space & Science Achievements In ‘Mann Ki Baat’

In the 124th edition of his monthly radio address, Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the growing pride India is experiencing across various fields, especially in space, science, and youth-led innovation.

He began by congratulating astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla on the successful completion of his recent space mission.

Shukla’s safe return was described by the Prime Minister as a moment that sparked widespread celebration and pride among citizens.

“A wave of happiness spread across every heart”, he said, emphasising how deeply the mission resonated with the public.

PM Modi connected the public’s interest in space with the ongoing legacy of Chandrayaan-3, India’s historic lunar landing in 2023.

He noted how the mission ignited a passion for space among schoolchildren, who now express dreams of becoming scientists and astronauts.

He cited this enthusiasm as a driving force behind the growing participation in the Inspire-Manak scheme—a government initiative that selects five students from each school to present innovative ideas.

According to the Prime Minister, the number of young participants has doubled since the Chandrayaan-3 success, underlining a renewed national interest in scientific discovery.

The Rise of Indian Space Startups

Prime Minister Modi also celebrated India’s thriving space-tech ecosystem. He mentioned the sharp rise in space-related startups, which have grown from fewer than 50 to over 200 in just five years.

This, he said, demonstrates the confidence and capacity of Indian entrepreneurs in the field of advanced technology and innovation.

PM Modi recognised India’s space achievements and declared 23 August, the day Chandrayaan-3 landed on the moon, as National Space Day.

He invited people to share how they plan to celebrate the occasion, turning it into a moment of national reflection and scientific pride.

The Prime Minister also praised Indian students who secured medals at the International Chemistry and Mathematics Olympiads, calling them examples of how Indian youth are excelling on the global stage.

Looking ahead, he noted that India will soon host the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad in Mumbai, which will welcome participants from over 60 countries, making it the largest such Olympiad to date.

PM Modi concluded by stating that India’s progress in science, technology, and education is setting the stage for even greater achievements.

From launching astronauts to inspiring children, he said, “India is not only aiming for the stars—it is reaching them.”
