PM Modi Highlights 2016 Surgical Strikes In Jammu Rally, Promises Statehood For J&K

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large BJP campaign rally in Jammu on Saturday, emphasizing statehood for J&K, which he claimed showcased India’s capability to conduct operations within enemy territory.

Reflecting on the strikes conducted in response to the Uri terror attack, Modi asserted, “The enemy knows that if they do anything serious in our country, then Modi will hit them deep inside their territory.” He criticized the Congress party for questioning the legitimacy of the surgical strikes, stating that they have failed to support the country’s defense forces.

During his speech, Modi expressed his patriotism and pride in visiting Jammu, invoking the contributions of historical figures like Maharaja Hari Singh and honoring the birth anniversary of martyr Bhagat Singh.

Modi condemned the ruling families of the National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress, stating that the people of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) are tired of their governance, which he claimed has been marked by corruption. He positioned the BJP as the party capable of bringing peace and prosperity to the region, asserting that the upcoming assembly elections are a chance for the citizens to choose a government that represents their interests.

He highlighted various development initiatives in J&K, including new infrastructure projects and healthcare improvements. Modi promised that the BJP would address historical discrimination against the Jammu region and ensure political representation for marginalized communities.

The Prime Minister also assured local businessmen that new industries would bring economic opportunities and that transparency in recruitment would prevent favoritism seen in previous governments. He touted the benefits of the Golden Card healthcare scheme and proposed financial incentives for solar energy use.

In a pledge to restore J&K’s statehood, Modi declared, “The BJP will make J&K a full-fledged state.” He encouraged voters to elect the BJP candidates in the upcoming elections, scheduled for October 1, stressing the importance of choosing representatives who prioritize development and welfare.

All 24 BJP candidates contesting from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur districts were present at the rally, with Modi raising their hands in anticipation of victory.

The election will be the third phase of voting in J&K, which has a total of 90 assembly seats after recent delimitation. The counting of votes is set for October 8.
