Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated India’s archers on their historic performance at the 2025 Asian Archery Championships, where the team delivered its best medal tally ever with 10 medals, including six golds.
PM Modi praised their dominance across recurve and compound categories and called the achievement a “very special feat” that would inspire future athletes.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister applauded the contingent for bringing home a landmark victory.
He highlighted the historic men’s individual recurve gold, secured after an 18-year gap.
PM Modi noted the athletes’ strong individual displays and their successful title defences in the compound division.
India’s women’s recurve team-Deepshikha, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and Prithika Pradeep-won gold with a confident performance.
Rahul claimed silver in the men’s individual recurve event after losing to fellow Indian Dhiraj Bommadevara in the final.
Dhiraj Bommadevara secured gold and ensured a one-two finish for India.
In the women’s individual recurve, Sangeeta clinched bronze after defeating Deepika Kumari in a tense shoot-off.
India continued its winning streak as Yashdeep Bhoge, Atanu Das, and Rahul secured gold in the men’s recurve team event by beating South Korea in a dramatic shoot-off.
Ankita Bhakat dominated the women’s individual recurve category and captured the gold medal with a composed and consistent outing.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam shone in the compound division and won the women’s individual event. She also led the team to victory, adding two more gold medals to India’s tally.
The highlight of the championship was Dhiraj Bommadevara’s historic win in the men’s individual recurve final.
He defeated teammate Rahul 6-2, earning India its first gold in the event since 2007.
Dhiraj maintained steady control through the match. After the opening set ended in a 1-1 tie, he surged ahead by taking the second set 29-26.
Rahul tied the third set with a strong effort, but Dhiraj retained a 3-1 lead.
He sealed the victory by winning the final set 28-26, delivering one of India’s most memorable victories in recent archery history.
India’s commanding performance reaffirmed the country’s growing strength in international archery and set a high benchmark for upcoming competitions.
