PM Modi Expresses Solidarity With Qatar; Calls For Diplomatic Resolution

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi telephoned Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al‑Thani of Qatar to express his deep concern over the recent attacks in Doha.

PM Modi denounced the violation of Qatari sovereignty and reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace and regional stability.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Spoke with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and expressed deep concern at the attacks in Doha. India condemns the violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly State of Qatar. We support resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy, and avoiding escalation. India stands firmly in support of peace and stability in the region, and against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

The exchange came just a day after the attacks, prompting urgent diplomatic engagement.

India Applauds Qatar’s Mediation Role

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi also appreciated Qatar’s ongoing mediation efforts in Gaza, highlighting their contribution toward achieving a ceasefire and ensuring the release of hostages.

The Amir responded with gratitude for India’s show of solidarity.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress made under the India–Qatar Strategic Partnership and committed to advancing cooperation across a range of sectors.

They also agreed to maintain close communications.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed that India was ‘deeply concerned’ by the developments in Doha, noting the broader implications for regional security.

The MEA urged all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise diplomacy to prevent further escalation.

Only earlier this year, in February, the Amir of Qatar had undertaken a State visit to India—his second—accompanied by a high-level delegation including ministers and business leaders.

During that visit, the two sides reaffirmed robust bilateral cooperation, commemorated historic trade and people-to-people ties, and signed the Agreement on the Establishment of Bilateral Strategic Partnership.

PM Modi’s prompt response to the crisis in Doha underscores India’s firm policy of supporting international stability and sovereignty.

Qatar’s mediation efforts in the Middle East crisis further accentuate its global role.

As both nations reaffirm mutual cooperation across diplomacy, energy, and security, their evolving partnership gains greater geopolitical significance.
