PM Modi Expresses Grief Over Tragic Bus Accident Involving Indian Pilgrims In Saudi Arabia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed profound grief over the tragic bus accident near Medina, Saudi Arabia, which involved multiple Indian Umrah pilgrims.

The collision occurred early in the morning when a passenger bus travelling from Mecca to Medina crashed into a diesel tanker, resulting in a massive explosion.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Deeply saddened by the accident in Medinah involving Indian nationals. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of all those injured.”

He further added that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are providing ‘all possible assistance’ and remain in close coordination with Saudi authorities to ensure the affected receive timely support.

Emergency Measures Activated

Following confirmation of the incident, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah immediately set up a 24/7 control room to assist distressed families and provide verified updates.

Helpline numbers have been released to facilitate communication for those seeking information about their relatives.

The Indian mission in Jeddah emphasised its commitment in a statement on X, “In view of a tragic bus accident near Madina involving Indian Umrah pilgrims, a 24×7 Control Room has been set up in the Consulate General of India, Jeddah.”

Details of the Accident

Preliminary—though unconfirmed—media reports suggest that many of the affected pilgrims are from Hyderabad.

The bus was reportedly en route to Medina after the pilgrims had completed their rituals in Mecca. Most passengers were believed to be asleep at the time of the crash.

The intensity of the explosion resulting from the diesel tanker collision has raised fears of significant casualties. However, official figures are yet to be released.

Furthermore, Local authorities and residents rushed to the accident site to assist the injured.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency teams working to transport victims to nearby medical facilities.

The Indian mission continues to monitor developments closely and is ensuring that accurate information is relayed to families in India.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed condolences over the loss of lives and assured support to the families of the victims.

The state government has also established a control room in Hyderabad to help families seeking updates.

As rescue operations continue, the Indian government and Saudi authorities are expected to release detailed information once confirmations are available.

The Indian missions remain actively engaged in providing every possible form of assistance to affected families.
