Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly remained at Delhi Airport for a period after returning from Kolkata, where he had participated in the main celebrations marking the 12th International Yoga Day.
PM Modi landed in the national capital at approximately 1:15 PM and had originally planned to proceed directly to his official residence. He opted to wait at the airport because the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination was due to begin at 2 PM.
Reports indicated that PM Modi chose to delay his departure to ensure his security movement did not affect traffic arrangements for examination candidates.
The step helped authorities maintain uninterrupted traffic flow and allowed students to travel to their designated centres without additional delays.
The Prime Minister left the airport only after the examination had officially commenced.
Officials conducted the NEET-UG re-test under heightened security measures, with more than 20 lakh students appearing for the examination across India and at overseas centres.
In the lead-up to the test, several candidates expressed concerns about their preparedness. Allegations surrounding a paper leak linked to the earlier examination held on May 3 triggered those concerns.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan extended his wishes to candidates and encouraged them to take the examination with confidence.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister said, “Today, the re-examination is going to be held. I have full faith in the National Testing Agency (NTA), all state governments, district administrations, India’s education system, and especially the students.”
“Nearly 22 lakh students will soon sit for the NEET exam. Sit without fear, without worry. You will surely do well. My best wishes to all students. The students have faith in India’s system; I hope this unwavering trust continues,” he added.
The Minister also announced that officials had prepared the re-evaluation results of more than 15 lakh CBSE Class 12 students. He said the results would come out shortly.
Pradhan also cautioned against any attempts to undermine the integrity of examinations. He stressed the need to safeguard the academic future of young Indians.
