PM Modi Congratulates Janez Jansa On Becoming Slovenia’s Prime Minister

PM Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Janez Jansa following his election as Slovenia’s Prime Minister and expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

Sharing his message on X, PM Modi conveyed his best wishes to Jansa and stated that he looked forward to working closely with him to deepen ties for the shared prosperity and mutual benefit of the people of both countries.

According to reports, Slovenia’s National Assembly appointed Jansa as Prime Minister on May 22 through a secret ballot. He secured 51 votes in the 90-member parliament.

Jansa will now begin his fourth term despite his Slovenian Democratic Party narrowly missing an outright electoral victory in March.

India and Slovenia have steadily expanded cooperation across multiple sectors in recent years.

In November last year, officials from both nations discussed strengthening collaboration in trade, technology, and tourism.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Secretary (West) Sibi George met a Slovenian delegation led by Peter Japelj to explore new avenues of economic and scientific cooperation.

India and Slovenia also organised the 10th session of the India-Slovenia Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation in New Delhi last November.

During the meeting, both countries expressed confidence regarding the early conclusion of a balanced and mutually beneficial India-European Union Free Trade Agreement.

Officials reviewed bilateral trade relations and assessed global and domestic economic developments.

Discussions covered agriculture, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transport, energy, tourism, MSMEs, Ayurveda, traditional medicine systems, trade expansion, and investment opportunities.

Authorities noted that bilateral trade between India and Slovenia has consistently increased over recent years, reflecting the strengthening depth and resilience of the partnership between the two countries.
