PM Modi Calls For Reviving India’s Ancient Educational Spirit In Independence Day Address

In his Independence Day speech on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort. He focused on the need to revive what he called “the centuries-old spirit of education.”

He stressed the importance of rekindling the ancient Nalanda spirit in today’s education sector. The goal is to infuse new energy into global knowledge traditions.

Furthermore, Modi expressed his desire for Indian students to have excellent education options within the country, rather than feeling the need to study abroad. He noted the high costs associated with studying overseas, which often burden middle-class families. Modi envisioned creating educational systems that would both attract international students to India and reduce the necessity for Indian students to seek education abroad.

Addressing educational institutions, the Prime Minister emphasized that language barriers should not hinder talent. “The education policy highlights the importance of the mother tongue,” he said. “Supporting it empowers every young Indian, including those from less privileged backgrounds, to realize their potential.”

Modi urged the nation to strive for new heights and not rest on past achievements. He emphasized that progress and prosperity should be central to the country’s ethos. The Prime Minister called for a national commitment to continuous development.

In response to global changes, Modi underlined the growing importance of skills and skill development. He called for increased focus on skill-building across all sectors, including agriculture and sanitation. The current Budget introduces an expanded Skill India Programme, which includes more internships to offer young people practical experience and enhance their employability. Modi’s vision is for India’s skilled workforce to take a prominent place in the global job market.
