PM Modi Applauds Sports Spirit In Jammu & Kashmir During ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 125th episode of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, highlighted the growing sports culture in Jammu & Kashmir, calling it a symbol of youth empowerment and resilience.

Addressing the nation on Sunday, PM Modi drew attention to the Royal Premier League and the inaugural Khelo India Water Sports Festival—both held in the Union Territory—as milestones in India’s sporting journey.

PM Modi hailed the organisation of the first-ever day-night cricket match in Pulwama, part of the Royal Premier League.

The event drew record attendance and excitement, with thousands of spectators filling the stadium.

“Amidst the havoc caused by floods and rain, J&K has witnessed some moments of joy,” the Prime Minister said. “In Pulwama, a historic crowd came together to watch the region’s first day-night cricket match. Thousands, particularly young people, enjoyed the game – it was truly a sight to behold.”

Water Sports Festival at Dal Lake: A National Gathering

PM Modi also praised the successful hosting of the Khelo India Water Sports Festival on the scenic Dal Lake in Srinagar.

The event, the first of its kind in India, saw participation from over 800 athletes representing various states.

The Prime Minister noted the significant presence of women competitors, describing it as a sign of growing inclusivity in sports.

“Dal Lake provided a perfect setting for this festival. Its aim is to promote water sports in Jammu & Kashmir,” he said, congratulating participants and organisers alike.

Spotlight on Athletes: Rashmita Sahoo and Mohsin Ali

During the address, PM Modi shared brief conversations with two participating athletes.

Rashmita Sahoo from Odisha spoke about her journey in canoeing, having started in 2017. She has since earned 41 national medals, including 13 golds.

PM Modi also congratulated Mohsin Ali from Srinagar, who secured gold in the event. Mohsin expressed pride in representing Kashmir and thanked the central government for nurturing youth sports in the region.

He also highlighted the positive response from visiting athletes, who appreciated Kashmiri hospitality.

PM Modi’s remarks underline the Centre’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and opportunities in Jammu & Kashmir.

Events like these not only foster talent but also bring communities together, paving the way for peace, unity, and national pride through sports.
