Cycling For Health: Sambit Patra’s ‘Sunday On Cycle’ Event Energises Puri; Credits PM Modi

BJP MP Sambit Patra led the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ campaign on Sunday in Puri, Odisha, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Movement and Khelo India initiative.

The event continued the National Sports Day celebrations, observed annually on August 29 to honour hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary.

The campaign attracted over a thousand participants, particularly youth and students from across the constituency.

Local officials, fitness enthusiasts, and residents enthusiastically joined Patra, turning Puri’s streets into a vibrant, health-focused celebration.

The event also underscored the growing awareness of physical fitness and community well-being.

Patra himself cycled an impressive 23 kilometres through prominent local landmarks, demonstrating his personal dedication to the fitness goals championed by the Fit India Movement.

The route encouraged onlookers and participants alike to adopt healthier and more active lifestyles.

Addressing the Crowd

Speaking to participants, Sambit Patra said, “This initiative is not just about cycling; it’s about creating a movement that brings health, discipline, and unity into our daily lives. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring such a nationwide fitness revolution.”

His remarks highlighted the campaign’s larger purpose beyond sport — fostering national health consciousness.

The event also promoted the upcoming ‘Sansad Khel Pratiyogita’ (Parliamentarian Sports Competition), which aims to encourage grassroots sports and physical activity across parliamentary constituencies.

Moreover, this initiative aligns with the government’s push to integrate fitness into daily routines and promote a culture of well-being.

Participants expressed enthusiasm and gratitude towards the Prime Minister for launching impactful, people-centred campaigns like Fit India.

Many pledged to continue cycling and regular physical activity as part of their lifestyle, inspired by the collective spirit and energy of the event.

The ‘Sunday on Cycle’ event symbolised the strengthening culture of fitness and health in India, driven by leadership and mass participation.
