On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah called on voters in Tamil Nadu. They urged active participation in the ongoing Assembly elections.
The appeal also stressed the need for wider participation. It further highlighted the importance of higher turnout among youth and women.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “As Tamil Nadu votes in the Assembly elections, I call upon all voters to take part enthusiastically in this sacred duty of democracy.”
“I urge the youth and the women of Tamil Nadu in particular to come out and vote in record numbers,” the post further read.
Additionally, Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, echoed the sentiment. He urged voters to turn out in large numbers and support a government aligned with their expectations.
“As Tamil Nadu goes to vote, I appeal to our sisters and brothers to participate enthusiastically and vote in large numbers. I urge all of you to elect a government that works towards the fulfilment of your aspirations, not one that works for the ambitions of its own family,” he posted on X.
Polling activity gathered pace across parts of the state. This, however, included constituencies in Erode district, where officials reported a smooth start to voting.
District Election Officer S Kandasamy said polling was underway without major issues.
Speaking after casting his vote, he confirmed that officials had conducted mock polls at all booths beforehand. They carried these out in the presence of party agents to ensure transparency.
Authorities have, however, introduced live web-streaming at polling stations in the district, allowing real-time monitoring by election officials.
A mobile application is tracking voting trends, with turnout data shared at regular intervals.
Enhanced security arrangements now maintain order and ensure fair voting across polling locations.
Voting is continuing across the state, with turnout levels expected to play a key role in determining the outcome.
