Parliament Security Breach: Speaker Om Birla Assures MPs, Action Plan To Be Formulated Based On Their Suggestions
The security lapse in Parliament during the winter session has disrupted proceedings, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla wrote a letter to MPs expressing deep concern. Birla mentions the unfortunate incident on December 13, 2023, and the collective worry expressed in the House. A high-level inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the incident, with a comprehensive report expected soon.
Additionally, a high-powered committee has been constituted for an in-depth investigation of the incident that took place inside the house. Birla emphasizes that the committee will formulate a robust action plan to strengthen security, preventing such incidents in the future.
Birla acknowledges past incidents of misconduct within the House and assures that measures will be taken based on valuable suggestions from all parties. He condemns attempts to link the incident with the suspension of MPs, clarifying that the disciplinary actions are unrelated to the event.
Expressing regret over the situation, Birla underscores the commitment to upholding parliamentary traditions and dignity. He points out that the decision to suspend members is in line with maintaining the sanctity of the parliamentary building. Despite the regrettable decision, he urges members to prioritize the dignity of the House in the future.
