‘Our Cultural Pride Soars Higher’: Amit Shah On Sarnath’s UNESCO Honour

Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the inclusion of Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh in the UNESCO World Heritage List, describing the recognition as a proud moment for India and a tribute to the country’s rich civilisational heritage linked to Lord Buddha.

Sharing his reaction on social media, Shah said India’s cultural pride had reached new heights with Sarnath receiving the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage status.

The Home Minister said the honour reflects the historical and spiritual significance of Sarnath, one of Buddhism’s most revered pilgrimage sites.

Shah noted that the UNESCO recognition celebrates India’s deep-rooted association with Lord Buddha and his timeless teachings. He also expressed confidence that the inscription would introduce Buddha’s wisdom to a wider global audience and encourage people to embrace the values of peace, compassion and enlightenment.

The UNESCO World Heritage inscription will strengthen global awareness of India’s cultural and spiritual legacy.

The recognition will also boost heritage tourism and showcase India’s commitment to preserving sites of historical and religious significance.

Sarnath, located in Uttar Pradesh, stands among Buddhism’s holiest pilgrimage sites.

Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon there after attaining enlightenment, making it one of the faith’s most sacred destinations.

Shah’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to protecting India’s heritage while promoting its rich cultural traditions on the global stage.
