In a landmark decision, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared on Friday that the state will offer a 10 percent reservation for Agniveers in its uniformed services. The announcement was made at Lokseva Bhawan as CM Majhi prepared to travel to Delhi for the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting.
Addressing the media, CM Majhi praised the Agniveers, describing them as a source of pride for the nation. “All the soldiers of Indian armed forces are our pride. Moreover, the Agniveers, who are rigorously trained by our defence forces, are highly qualified to serve in various security-related roles,” Majhi stated.’
Highlighting the significance of the Agniveer Scheme, which was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Majhi emphasized its role in empowering youth to tackle life’s challenges. “This initiative has made our youth capable and fearless. In recognition of their service, the Odisha government has decided to include Agniveers in the recruitment process for the state’s uniformed services.”
Under the new policy, Agniveers from Odisha who are not absorbed into the defence forces will be eligible for up to 10 percent reservation in state uniformed services, including police, fire services, and the forest department. Additionally, the state will grant a five-year age relaxation for these candidates.
However, this move reflects Odisha’s commitment to supporting and integrating Agniveers into key public service roles.
