IndiGo Flight Rerouted To Ahmedabad After In-Flight Bomb Scare

Officials said on Thursday that an IndiGo flight headed to Hyderabad from Madinah was forced to divert to Ahmedabad after a bomb threat was reported.

The aircraft, operating as flight 6E58, was carrying 180 passengers and six crew members when the alert was triggered. It landed without incident at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport around 12:30 PM.

IndiGo staff reportedly received the threat through an email while the plane was airborne.

As Ahmedabad was the closest safe option, pilots were instructed to head there immediately as a safety precaution.

Upon arrival, CISF personnel, local police and a bomb detection unit searched the aircraft from end to end.

Officials later confirmed that no explosive or suspicious material was discovered.

Data from Flightradar24 showed that the Airbus A320 departed Madinah at 5:29 AM, several hours behind schedule. It was due to land at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport around midday.

This incident comes during a period of heightened disruption for the airline, with numerous IndiGo flights cancelled or delayed across the country, including at Hyderabad.

The diversion is the second in just a few days involving bomb threats to Hyderabad-bound aircraft.

On 2 December, an IndiGo flight travelling from Kuwait was rerouted to Mumbai after airport support staff in Hyderabad received a threat message.

The aircraft, carrying 235 passengers, landed safely and underwent thorough security checks.

A similar incident occurred on 23 November. A Gulf Air flight from Bahrain to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai after a warning email claimed a bomb was on board.

That aircraft was later cleared following inspections, and the flight resumed its journey.
