Northeast Now Peaceful Due To BJP Government’s Efforts, Says Amit Shah In Assam

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the Northeast, once regarded as a disturbed region, is now witnessing peace and stability due to sustained efforts by the BJP-led government at the Centre.

Speaking at the 87th Raising Day celebrations of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Guwahati, he described the force’s contribution to restoring order in the region as historic and unparalleled. Nearly 700 CRPF personnel have laid down their lives over the decades to ensure peace and security in the Northeast, he noted.

Shah said the region, earlier associated with unrest and instability, has undergone a significant transformation, crediting the bravery and sacrifice of security forces, particularly the CRPF.

The Home Minister highlighted that this was the first time in the CRPF’s 86-year history that its Raising Day celebrations were held in Assam. He described the decision as symbolic of the Northeast’s transformation and its growing importance in India’s internal security framework.

He also pointed to the government’s broader success in restoring stability in other conflict-affected regions.

Focus On Jammu & Kashmir and Maoist Areas

Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said decisive policy measures and firm action against terrorism have significantly improved the security situation. He added that Maoist activities in several parts of the country have been effectively curbed under the BJP government.

The Home Minister emphasised that border security remains a priority, with sustained efforts underway to keep India’s borders peaceful and secure. He said development and security are being pursued simultaneously, particularly in sensitive and border areas.

Development Gains Momentum

According to Shah, peace in the Northeast has paved the way for development, investment and economic growth, enabling the region to move toward prosperity. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace while strengthening infrastructure and connectivity.

The Home Minister also paid tribute to fallen CRPF personnel and their families, stating that the nation remains indebted to their supreme sacrifice in safeguarding India’s unity and integrity.
