Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will take oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Friday, marking a key moment in the state’s political transition. Senior leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, have reached New Delhi and will attend the ceremony.
Following his election to the Upper House, Nitish Kumar resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council on March 30.
After arriving in the national capital, he confirmed plans to step down as Chief Minister, stating that he intends to shift his focus to responsibilities at the national level.
Nitish Kumar indicated that he would resign within a few days, adding that new leadership would soon take charge in Bihar. He was accompanied by Sanjay Jha and state minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary during his visit.
Earlier, Sanjay Jha had suggested that the process of forming a new government would begin after April 13, and Nitish Kumar’s latest remarks now point to an imminent transition.
Vijay Kumar Choudhary affirmed that the NDA remains united and committed to continuing the ‘Nitish Model’ of governance, which he credited for Bihar’s progress over the past two decades.
After taking the oath, Nitish Kumar will join a key meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to outline the roadmap for Bihar’s next government.
Sources say NDA leaders may finalise the next Chief Minister and allocate portfolios during the meeting.
Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha are also likely to join the BJP discussions on leadership and power-sharing.
The move comes as Bihar undergoes a key political transition, with the NDA working to ensure a smooth government formation.
